The Shining (Paperback, 2006, Hodder Paperback)
5 star

Jack Torrance, his wife Wendy, and their young son Danny move into the Overlook Hotel, …

One of Stephen King's only works of “real” literature

5 star

While most of Stephen King's works are just the drug-induced ramblings of a pulp horror writer (see It (1986)), The Shining is a real, inspired, artistic work with real actual themes and real actual characters and it's actually a work of literature. While the film is very good as well, I like how much more prominent Hallorann is in this compared to the film, and the themes and focuses of the book are different but equally good.
